The art museum was established in 2005 by George Sheer and his friends Josh Fox, Matt Merfert, and Stephanie Sherman.

It belonged to Sheer’s grandmother who, together with her husband, used it in the 20th century as an army surplus supply house and thrift store.

There were preserved collections that his grandmother had collected over the years and Sheer came up with the idea to turn the facility into a museum.
